San Francisco Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi
HOME

Club Information: History

It was November 17, 1925 when fourteen alumnae of Pi Beta Phi petitioned National with a hand-written letter and signed by all which read:

We, the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae, residing in San Francisco, feeling that the bay forms a barrier to efficient work for the settlement school, do petition the Grand Council for a charter for an alumnae club to be known as the San Francisco Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi.

In 1926, our national charter was granted. San Francisco became the second Pi Phi alumnae club to be chartered in Northern California, thirteen years after the Berkeley club.

Eighty years later, San Francisco Pi Phi Alumnae activities mirror that of our great city. From $2 dues to Chronicle-headlines; the Pacific Avenue Fun Fete, Meals on Wheels, the Larkin Hall Rummage Sale, the Dollhouse Auction, Horse Racing for Scholarship Funds, and Monmouth Duo. With recent philanthropies such as ROCK, Casa De La Madras, March for Breast Cancer, Literacy in Our Schools, and the SF Food Bank, the club reflects the times and our city.

We, like the great city of San Francisco itself, are survivors. We thank all of our Golden Arrows and sisters, past and present, for giving us such a rich history. Here’s to another glorious eighty years – ring ching ching!
